The 2007 Sydney Writers' Festival attracted record attendances. Over 85,000 people attended events from the Blue Mountains to Newcastle and Wollongong, with the focus once again on The Wharf area of Sydney. |

Centenary Medal awarded by the Governor-General |

Two new Board Appointments |
I have accepted an invitation to join the NSW Major Events Board, which
will be chaired by Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE. The Board has been
requested by the Premier of New South Wales, Bob Carr, to attract major
sporting and cultural events on a medium and long term basis to New
South Wales.
The Australia Council for the Arts has invited me to chair Books
Alive!, an Australian Government initiative to promote books and
reading in Australia. |

Sandra Yates Appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia |
I was honoured to be appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia in
the Queen's Birthday honours this year. The citation was for services
to the community, particularly to women's organizations, the
development and management of vocational education and training, and
the advertising industry.
I'm delighted by the recognition, and touched by all the messages of
congratulations that have come in from family and friends around the
globe. |
