The Australian Council for Women was set up by the Federal Government to advise on Australia’s preparations for the 4th UN Conference on Women, held in Beijing in 1995. I was a Government Adviser and Delegate to the conference, and as part of our preparations, was involved in the consultative process which saw Australian women invited to tell us about the issues that were important to them. It was both a humbling and an inspiring process.
